The Benefits of ICTs

After reading the article I found many advantages of why we should integrate ICT. I was talking to my mentor about it and she said when she started there was nothing like it and when she came back from maternity leave she had to learn all about in very short time. However, now she will use it every day and loves the IWB as it links to many great resources. Also, ICT is what student are familiar with and are very ICT savvy. They may even know more than what I do… What a scary thought. For this reason its also important to update our skills all the time!

When completing my essay for the assignment I was curious as to see what the big deal about ICT rich experiences was so I went looking. I came across this article and not only did it help me develop an understanding of why we should integrate ICTs into our students learning, it was also a big help for the assignment. #winning

Post prac

Like Kat this had been the best practical experience so far. I have learnt so much and enjoyed it so much. I am more confident in my teaching and feel that I can take the class all by myself.
My mentor was amazing and a teacher I expire to be. She was lovely and had a great relationship with her students. I have even loved that I have gone back and helped with reading groups. I found it strange that the teacher had minimal support and had to do everything. Also, she had three young children and was redesigning her kitchen. Wonder woman I think!

Sometimes I question can i be a teacher? Will I be able to take on all these responsibilities. After this practical experience I believe I can do it and can’t wait to be in the class. Like Kat I get a bit lost and question why I’m doing it then I go on practical and I’m like yeah let me have my own class. HOWEVER, I’m not just ready. I think after the nest three practicals I will be ready to teach.

How weird does it feel when you finish practical experience and then wake up to that early alarm that you forgot to delete (whyyyyyyyy its too early) and realize that you don’t have to go to school – BUT I WANT TO! (first time for everything)

This practical experience has been the best so far. I don’t know if it was because i have learnt and grown as a teacher or because i was given more responsibility or because my mentor was amazing.

I don’t know about you but i go through down stages when im studying. It’s like why did i choose to do this because there is so much work involved and im so tired and just want to do things that i don’t get to do, and then i get to practicals and i’m like yeahhhhhh this is why i do this. Does anyone else feel like…

Prac experiences

Like Tamara I used WALT, WILF, TIB which was also a success in my teaching. Students have a goal to work towards and wanted to achieve this goal. I believe it is important to give a goal for students to complete the learning outcome. Also, the teacher to believe that achieve what they wanted out of the lesson. Sometimes a few student didn’t complete the WILF but were allowed extra time to complete it later on in the day. I also like Tamara did direct and explicit teaching method which allow me to implement new skills and for students to understand what was expected.

Hi all!
Hope everyone’s prac’s went really well!
I really enjoyed my placement, it was a Health and Physical Education placement. I got to teach all ages which was a really good experience. I taught bush dancing, throwing and catching, high jump and hopping. I administered WALT, WILF and TIB which I found very successful implemented into my teaching. I had posters up on a wall which I pointed to when explaining the activities to students. I only used this explicit teaching method for high jump, hopping, and throwing and catching. The student’s also seemed to respond well to this direct and explicit teaching method because they new what elements of the skill to be thinking about, what it was and why they were performing the particular skill.

Report Cards

Lucky Danielle she got to experiencing putting data onto one school. I would love to encounter this assessing process. I have only seen teachers put it into the system. On my last placement I assessed mathematics component by marking them with guidance from my mentor which I enjoyed. I was intrigued about the Catholic education reporting process where they have there own program. Also, how much assessment there is for mathematics and sometimes the children don’t even know that there doing the assessment. I remember when I went to school there might have been one or two assessment for each subject a term now students are completing one or two a week for Mathematics and English.

Danielle Smith

The end of term is fast approaching and myself like many other teachers across the country are feeling overwhelmed as they not only have to plan a series of lessons, but are also having to collect the necessary data in order complete a number of report cards by the end of next week.

I was lucky enough today to have the opportunity to explore the OneSchool webpage and actually enter student results. It was great to operate and attempt entering in student results as this is something I will be expected to do as a qualified teacher, however I may never have the opportunity to experiment with the OneSchool webpage during placements.

This practicum has been an experience of a lifetime and I am incredibly sad to only have 4 days remaining.. 😦

Counting the days until holidays!

As I type away with my assignments, I have one thing that is motivating me that most which is I will be New Zealand in less than three weeks. I can already smell the snow and feel my heart racing to get ready to bungy jump off a bridge.  Lucky teachers get the most amount of holidays (only kidding).  Also crazy to think I only have 12 subjects, 3 semesters, 50 days of professional experience, and countless amounts of assessment.  I can’t wait to become a teacher and have my own class to teach. Who knows? It might take me back to New Zealand or Europe or maybe just to the Sunshine coast.

Here’s  a picture of what I will look like bungy jumping!

ASSIGNMENT OVERLOAD

After finishing professional experience I feel like I have 1 million and 10 things to do.  I have three assignments due straight after professional experience. I have planned ahead with completing one before placement which I believe was the lightest workload. However, the other two assignments were report and mini-unit plan which placement helped me to complete these assignments.  I never thought I would finish them but I had time to spare to edit and check all the elements were there which were great! However, I have one more assignment left which is of course this one.  I have looked for some motivational quotes to get me through the semester..

I can’t wait to be a teacher and inspire my students. Bring on graduation!

Behaviour management

The school I attended professional experience at had a great behaviour management. It is ClassDojo which each student has a character and the teacher can give them positive reinforcements or consequences which gains or looses points.  This program was just beginning to come into the classroom when I was there. This is great resource for teachers to have and easy to access.  The parents can also access this to see how well the student has behaved during the week. This allows the parent to see the students behaviour and reinforce good behaviour strategies at home as well. It also brings ICT  into the classroom to engage students. I can’t wait to use it in my future classroom.

Reflection on placement

How exciting three long weeks of placement. I learnt so much especially about behavior management and that year ones need step by step management. If you don’t scaffold the activity, you will have a million questions that are exactly the same. You must model the activity, especially English lessons  with writing sentences and recounts.  I found to reflect on idea, technology is one of the best resources to engage and review the activity. I have also found that routine and repetition with young children helps them retain the concept. In mathematics we did a lot place value and counting activities before getting onto a new concept. When children where tested I found they still were lost with some numbers and there was still so much learning for them to do. I can’t wait to return and I very happy with my experience and my mentor was happy with my progress. Now its time to focus on that assignment. Wish me luck!
